Instead we get in depth accounts of the highlights (and miscues) of each show. And the tidbits are incredibly insightful. Cain must be a musician, and he must have spent thousands of hours listening to the shows over and over again. He picks up on things I wouldn't have even known to look for. I found myself going back to the shows and listening for some of the details discussed in the reviews. This goes way beyond discussing firsts, rarities, and the like. Cain points out fun and insightful details of specific solos, segues, quality of playing and the like. What a blast. And this is just October; eleven more volumes hopefully to look forward to. Great job putting a new spin on an old topic. This is not for your casual deadhead, but if you are a true believer -- I highly recommend getting this one. It won't disappoint. Amazing that this book is limited to all Grateful Dead concerts performed during the month of October. Additional volumes will hopefully be forthcoming and what a comprehensive and valuable resource a full 12 volume set would be for a Grateful Dead fan. So glad I found this book and enjoy reading about each day of shows in sequence. The author clearly has extensive knowledge and insight on live Grateful Dead in all its glory. Well done and can't recommend highly enough. There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert and now we have a resource guide that brings each concert to life.
